Like a Virgin:  Blog 2
Jackie Fernandez

It’s a defining moment, but I can’t just share it with anyone.   It must be special.  Unforgettable.  Exciting.

Two words:  Art Walk.  Bingo.  It’s an electrifying night of local art and food trucks.

But how do I decide?  So many attractive trucks.  So many delicious vegetarian options.  The dishes are beautifully wrapped.  They’re all look so luscious.  They’re all so tempting.  Which one will it be?

I had a great selection to choose from too:  A Mexican, a Japanese, a cheerful burger joint, a hot dog extraordinaire, and even a funky potato tornado.

Well, I laid eyes on a Mediterranean truck and lost it.

Why did I choose Kabob’N Roll?  Why was it so special?  Well, I’m a sucker for grape leaves, hummus and falafel.  I won’t solely blame myself though.  The truck, itself, is somewhat of a temptress.  It’s shiny and tall.  It’s covered in flames.  Need I say more?  In the vein of cut off shorts, owners use a small table to display delicious offerings.  I couldn’t resist.

I ordered these items and split them with Patricia.  The food was delicious.  Amidst the hustle and bustle of the downtown Art Walk, under the starry sky, I sat in my fold out chair and escaped into an orgasmic dining experience.  I can even go as far as saying it was better than cuisine I’ve had at some brick ‘n mortars.

Smooth, creamy hummus not too dry, clumpy and the flavor was just right.  I’ve had bad hummus and it irritates me.  The vegan grape leaves didn’t taste any differently from a non-vegan one.  The falafel was perfectly fried.  As I’m writing this my mouth is watering. I want to go back.  Now!

My night of food truck deliciousness didn’t stop there.  I was smitten and wanted more.  Thankfully, I didn’t suffer consequences of my gluttony and hopefully never will.

A Japanese-Mexican fusion was my second stop.  The Komodo offered a vegetarian taco called the Soi.  It’s filled with a soy tempeh salad and peanut dressing.  It was good, but not like my first.  For my palette, it was a little dry.  Maybe I should ask for more peanut dressing next time.  I mean I’m a recent non-virgin so I gotta slowly figure out how I like things, right?

Like A Virgin /2010/10/like-a-virgin/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=like-a-virgin /2010/10/like-a-virgin/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2010 13:15:00 +0000 masarevolution http://masarevolution-themovie.com/?p=364 This is where foodies new to the food truck scene psych themselves out for the first time.  In other words, who should be the lucky one?

I’m a food truck virgin. As a recent resident of Los Angeles, I’m ashamed I’ve never been to one.  I have no excuse; I’ve been living here since July. Now I’m working on Masa Revolution and the guilt will consume me (no pun intended) if I don’t eat from one of these trucks ASAP.

“Why hasn’t she tried food from one of these trendy food spots,” you might be asking yourself.  She’s insane…SHE MUST NOT LIKE FOOD!

Nope. That’s not it at all.

I love food. I love trying new dishes all the time. My excuse is about as lame as “My dog ate my paper.”  Ready for it? (Drum-roll) The reason I haven’t been to a food truck is because they rarely park in my neighborhood. I’ve become one of those people that only stick to places walking distance from their home. Man.

The time has come my friends. Like any virgin, I’m hesitant and I want more information so I can decide what special truck will be my first. This is THE experience that will make or break it. Will I like the food? Will I get grossed out because the food is from a truck? Will I have a pleasant experience? Oh man, the anxiety.

I’m writing this so I can get help from fellow foodies that are experienced with food truck dining. I do have some requirements. I might be a virgin but I’m not easy. Not yet at least.

I’m looking for a truck with vegetarian options. What do you think is the best truck for vegetarians? I want to know because once I get some suggestions I’m going to narrow it down to MY FIRST. So let me know guys, so I can finally experience this food truck rave.

Where did you go for your first time?
